Baptism
Celebrating the Baptism of a child is a very special time in a family’s life. New beginnings bring much joy and anticipation. The church celebrates with you on this important occasion. Except for the Season of Lent when no Baptisms are held, Baptisms are celebrated of the first and third Sundays of each month at 1:00 pm.
Infant Baptism Preparation Sessions
Most people select a godmother and godfather, although the Church says that one is sufficient. The Church asks that the godparents be at least 16 years old and baptized and confirmed Catholics who attends Mass and receives Eucharist regularly. First-time parents are required, and first-time godparents are strongly encouraged, to attend a baptism parent preparation class prior to the baptism date. This session, required by Church law, provides catechetical instruction and prepares everyone for their role in the development of the faith of the child, as well as practical information on the actual Baptism ceremony. Theses sessions are held in the Parish Center at 1711 N Cleveland, 2nd floor library, usually on the second Monday of the month at 7p.m. and the 4th Sunday of the month at 2p.m.. First Time parents are required to attend the class and godparents are welcomed and encouraged to attend. You are welcome to bring your infant to the class.
To schedule a baptism and/or register for a Parent preparation session, please call the Parish Office at 312-642-2498 or e-mail tdunning@st-mikes.org.
