9th Annual Spring Fling Gala

Tony Berent Award Winners

Tom and Wendy McNulty

Karen Rabun

Tom McNulty has been a member of the St Michael's community since 1986 . Wendy joined the parish when she and Tom were married at St. Michael's in 1990.

They have 3 children : T.J., Colleen and Mary who are often with them at the 5 o'clock mass.  They feel very fortunate to be a part of St. Michael and to be able to raise their children in this parish. The people and parish staff always make you feel at home. Both Tom and Wendy have served as lectors and Eucharistic Ministers since joining the parish and were members of the Advisory Committee for the most recent Capital Campaign. Tom said, "Tony Berent was one of the first parishioners I met after joining St. Michael's so it is a special honor to receive an award in his name."

Wendy added, "We are grateful to receive the award and look forward to many more years at St. Michael in Old Town."

When first coming to St. Michael’s Karen served on Parish Council for 6 years, became a Eucharistic Minister, helped organize and host the New Parishioner dinners, and was part of the hospitality committee. When Fr. Ken Sedlak started Pathway in 1998, Karen was on the first committee to help define the scope and mission. Volunteering then took the form of taking tickets at the gates for years at St Mike’s different summer fests, a particular favorite of Karen’s. After going thru the formation program to become a spiritual director, Karen met with many people at St Mike’s over a 9 year time period. Twelve years ago, Karen started planting gardens at St Mike’s and eventually formed a Garden Committee that began beautifying the five raised beds then added beds on the North side of the plaza and then the enclosed “Secret Garden” with the pond.

By being part of the Gala Committee the past two years, Karen met even more parishioners and has been a volunteer for most of groups at St Mike’s including Breakfast with Santa, Oktoberfest dinners, and spaghetti dinners . In Karen’s words, “Lasting friendships have formed as a result of this volunteer work.  For that, I am so thankful.  Since all my family live in Oklahoma and Texas, my St Mike’s friends have become my Chicago “family”.  St Mike’s church was a large part of why I stayed in Chicago, rather than moving back to Oklahoma, when I retired 17 years ago.”

The 10th Annual
Spring Fling Gala

April 18, 2015

The 9th Annual Spring Fling Gala has come and gone -

But the pictures are proof of the fun time!

Diane Kelley-Thompson, chair of the Gala, would like to thank the members of her Gala Committee who worked so hard to make this year’s event a great success and a wonderful celebration for our parish community. The hard work of the committee members who solicited donations, helped to organize the auction, set up on the day of the event and worked during it is much appreciated. We also owe a great deal of gratitude to all of the generous donors who contributed to the auctions, the program book, and the gift bags, listed below. We encourage our parishioners to remember them with their patronage and support. Finally, thanks to everyone who attended this year’s Gala. We look forward to seeing you all next year!
