Usher & Greeters
Usher-Greeters welcome parishioners and visitors as they arrive for worship. With cheerfullness, they put a smile on the faces of those arriving for worship, which allows them to feel comfortable and welcomed. The first parishioner to interact with a visitor who is just arriving is the Usher/Greeter and, first impressions matter a lot. The spirit of the ushering ministry disposes Ushers to minimize personal matters in favor the “supreme good” (phillippians 3:8)
Punctuality is an important aspect of the Usher/Greeter ministry. To be able to meet and welcome other arriving parishioners and visitors, Ushers and Greeters should arrive at Mass early. Greeters, along with Ushers, welcome the faithful by providing them with worship aids. Ushers further help members of the faith community into the place of gathering and offer assistance to those who need it to get seated. Other responsibilities include assisting the members of the congregation throughout the liturgy; taking up the collections; counting attendance at Mass; passing out bulletins; assisting the Priest as requested and supporting additional activities as required or necessary. Being a part of this ministry allows the opportunity to meet fellow parishioners, personalize the worship experience, and actively participate in the celebration of the Mass. Time requirements are approximately 10 minutes before Mass, during the celebration and 10 minutes after Mass.
Ushers for each Mass group get to know one another. At any Mass, if for any reason there is not enough Ushers, they ask for volunteers from the community of worshippers. It is desirable that any Usher who foresees that he or she will not be able to serve should call and let a co-usher know about it.
