Music at St. Michael in Old Town
Historic Saint Michael Church in Old Town has been
called "an acoustical jewel." It is an exceptional space in which to
make music and has attracted a variety of concert and recording
artists such as Mannheim Steamroller and Music of the Baroque. Most
importantly, the acoustics provide our faith community with
beautiful liturgies as well as concerts throughout the year.
I invite you to explore the links below in order to learn more about the music program here at St. Michael in Old town. St. Michael gratefully accepts donations to enhance our music program, especially during the Christmas and Easter seasons, in memory of a loved one, or in thanksgiving for a blessing received. Checks should be made out to St. Michael's Church, with a note to "Friends of Music." GALLERY CHOIR This choir of mixed adult voices, both professional and volunteer, provides music for the 11:00 Sunday Mass, Holy Week services, Midnight Mass on Christmas, and assorted holy days. Our repertoire consists of music ranging from chant and early polyphony to music of contemporary composers of church music who write in the traditional style. Rehearsals take place in the choir loft on Sundays at 10:00 a.m., with occasional rehearsals following the 11:00 a.m. Mass. Interested singers of high school age and older are encouraged to join us. For more information about the Gallery Choir, please call Judith Trosen at the church office (312) 642-2498 ext. 221, or e-mail her at musdir@peoplepc.com. SAINT MICHAEL'S HANDBELL ENSEMBLE Our ringers rehearse in the first balcony on Wednesdsay evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and offer music at the 11:00 Mass on the first Sunday of every month, as well as on special occasions. This group is three years old and has progressed steadily, having fun all the way! All ages are welcome. For more information about the Handbell Ensemble, please call Judith Trosen at the church office (312) 642-2498 ext. 221, or e-mail her at musdir@peoplepc.com. INSTRUMENTALISTS NEEDED Do you play a violin or flute? Would you like to offer a prelude before Mass? The Gallery Choir would love to have you accompany some of our anthems. Please step forward and get in touch with Judith at the above e-mail address or through the church office.
